Zamfara Police command has confirmed that about three-hundred and seventeen (317) students were abducted from the government girls secondary school in Jangebe, Zamfara State on Friday.
The Zamfara Police Commissioner, CP Abutu Yaro made this known while speaking to journalists after a visit to the school.
There have been reports that armed gunmen stormed the school in their numbers in the early hours of Friday to kidnap the girls.
CP Yaro while giving updates about the incident also revealed that a joint search and rescue operation is already underway with a view to rescuing the 317 students kidnapped by the armed bandits.
The Zamfara abduction occurred eight days after gunmen kidnapped dozens of students and workers of Government Science College in Kagara, Niger State and they are yet to be released.
