The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will come up with a consensus presidential candidate that will be its flagbearer in the 2023 general election at the appropriate time.
The National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), John Akpanudoehede, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
It comes after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari has a self-succession plan.
Reacting to this, Akpanudoehede took a swipe at the PDP, saying unlike the opposition party, the APC is a disciplined party.
He further stressed that the APC would not allow individual ambitions to derail the Buhari administration ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.
“After our congresses and the National Convention, we will shock them [PDP] by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023.
“APC has no third term agenda like PDP. What we are doing now is to stabilise the party and not allow individual ambitions to derail President Buhari’s administration,” Akpanudoehede said.
