The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike says the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state will soon make public its choice for the presidential candidate to vote for in the upcoming 2023 presidential election.

Wike made this known on Tuesday while speaking at the commissioning of the Rukpokwu-Igwuruta Link Road in Rumuapu community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the decision on the candidate the state will support for the presidential election will be made known after deliberations.

He urged the people of Rivers State to vote only the PDP’s governorship candidate as well as National Assembly and State Assembly candidates in the State.

Although a PDP governor, had promised logistics support for the campaigns of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and that of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso who recently visited the state to commissioned projects.

Wike and four other PDP governors known as the G5 have insisted that the national chairman of the PDP steps down for a Southerner as the North already occupies the Presidential candidate position in the person of Atiku Abubakar.

There have been fears and concerns that the crisis between Wike, Atiku and the PDP would affect the chances of the party at the presidential polls.

While G5 have not campaigned for Atiku, it is unclear if they will support any of the other frontline candidates.

Wike said: “Then the other one (presidential election), I will come and tell you where we will vote. These ones (governorship, Senatorial, Reps and State Assembly candidates) I mentioned now, make sure you come and vote for them. Very soon, we’ll meet in our houses and take decision where we are going to.”

“You will work for a party that has come to your aid, a party that has brought dividends of democracy. If the people of Rukpokwu are not happy, will they be here.”

“Governance is all about the happiness of the people. When the people are happy, we are happy. So, if I come here to address you everybody will listen to me.”
