Analyst reviews World Press Freedom Day in Nigeria

Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has reiterated the UN’s commitment to protecting and supporting media workers around the world.

In his Message in mark the World Press freedom day, Guterres described the work of journalists as essential to ensuring that those in positions of power are held to account.

The UN chief further explained that there is no freedom without press freedom.

Earlier in the year, the 2021 annual World Press Freedom Index ranked Nigeria as a country not conducive to the practice of journalism.

While the minister of information, Lai Muhammed has since rejected the report, media workers, civil societies, as well as human rights groups have maintained that the independent press in Nigeria is under attack.

To discuss this further, Lekan Otufodunrin, CEO media Career development network joins me now. Thank you very much for joining us.
