10 Dead in Sokoto Attack as Oyo Police Bust Child Trafficking Ring

At least 10 people have been killed after bandits attacked Tofa community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday and reportedly left several residents missing. Security analyst Bakatsine, citing local sources, said between 38 and 40 people were allegedly abducted, while the attackers also rustled livestock and looted property.

In Oyo State, the police have revealed that six children allegedly abducted by a suspected child-trafficking syndicate died while in captivity, while 17 others were rescued and seven suspects arrested.

Police Commissioner Abimbola Olugbenga said the investigation followed the disappearance of three-year-old Ifakunle Ifagbenro during a masquerade festival in Oyo. Four other children were subsequently rescued in Agbor, Delta State, from suspected buyers.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad ahead of the resumption of schools on September 14.

The Commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, said the deployment is aimed at safeguarding pupils, teachers and school facilities while strengthening the police response to potential security threats.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. It provided 08000009111 as its emergency line for school-related security incidents.
