₦6.3BN corruption charge: Prosecution is weak compared to defence in Nigeria’s elites- Ufeli

A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos has discharged and acquitted a former Governor of the state, Jonah Jang, and Yususf Pam a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the Plateau state government over the N6.3 billion corruption charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The presiding judge, Justice Christen Dabup, who delivered the judgement, said that the court did not find Jang and Pam guilty of any of the charges.

Jang, a former governor of Plateau and Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, have been standing trial over a 17-count charge bothering on diversification and misappropriation state funds since May 4, 2018.

Reacting to judgment, the defense counsel, Mike Ozekhome, said that the court found no merit whatsoever in any of the 17 count charges.

On his part, the EFCC Counsel, Oluwaleke Atolagbe said that they were yet to receive written copy of the judgement, adding that the commission would review the judgment and see whether there were grounds for appeal.
