National Secretary of the Catfish Farmers Association of Nigeria (CAFAN), Rotimi Oloye, said that the fish would be distributed to members of the association, including feeds for the fishes as well as water treatment equipment.
He said payment for the feeds and water treatment equipment would be shared between the farmers and the government on a 50-50 percent basis.
“Officials of government have started registering some of our members, about 840 fish farmers in each state will benefit from this scheme all over the federation,”
“This is a very good programme of the Federal Government as farmers will make a lot of profit because they will only pay half of the cost of feeds,”he added.
Oloye disclosed that the government is poised to deal directly with fish farmers in the country through the different associations, and added that the government had given a call to fish farmers to make applications for kilns to be used in training farmers in fish processing and packaging techniques for export.
