Celebrating The Essence Of Motherhood

177

In my sojourning on earth, I have come to realize that a particular profession entails being on duty, every second, every minute, every hour, every week, every day, every month and every year.

No wonder Tillie Olsen words: “More than in any other human relationship overwhelmingly instantly interruptible, responsive and responsible.” Being a mother, demands that you are constantly gardening, polishing, cheering, building, nurturing, inspiring, motivating and praying.

Funny enough, unlike other professions, you are not paid in cash every month, rather the payment come in kind: in your children being well behaved, excelling in school, being articulate and God-fearing. Welcome To The World Of Motherhood.

It is an established fact that most mothers care enormously for their children and even their spouses to the extent of ignoring their own health and needs. Stories abound of most mothers who would rather starve so that their families can be well-fed.

Now I understand better Jessica Lange’s statement: “The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.”

In the same vein, majority of our mothers are busy minding their homes that they refuse to go for medical check-up to ascertain the cause of a certain throbbing pain in any part of the body.

Some don’t even have time to themselves talk less have time to reinvent themselves.

Hello, my fellow mothers, it’s high time we got our groove back; when we don’t stay fit and healthy, we end up endangering our lives at the detriment of the joy and happiness of our most precious jewels: our children.

We mothers should eat well: savour a lot of vegetables, fruits, take in less alcohol, drink enough water, exercise: both physically and mentally (read good motivational books and materials), pray always for yourselves, our husband and children.

Pamper your body thoroughly, wear clean and creative attires. We should learn not to bear grudges, be more forgiving and above all laugh, laugh, laugh.

It is an honour that a day has been set aside to celebrate mothers all over the world.

It is a testament that mother are invaluable.

To every mother out there, you are a star and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Happy Mother’s Day.
